Citrix Receiver is used on iPhones for access to Windows applications from anywhere with a lightweight client that can be downloaded directly from the Apple App Store.
An Android version will be available for download in the second half of 2009.
The program a lightweight universal software client that makes accessing applications and IT services on any device as easy as turning on a TV, claims Citrix.
Receiver features an extensible architecture with plug-ins that communicate with desktop virtualisation products like Citrix XenDesktop and Citrix XenApp in the datacentre to ensure a rich, secure, "high-definition" experience for end users through Citrix HDX Technology, said Citrix.
Citrix Receiver supports PCs, laptops, netbooks, thin clients and smart phones and the vendor hopes it will become a ubiquitous software client for accessing corporate applications and data.
The Citrix Android Receiver is part of a broader strategic effort by Citrix to bring enterprise management to mobile devices, in collaboration with Open Kernel Labs.
Open Kernel Labs develops technology in embedded systems software and virtualisation.
The inaugural Citrix iForum Singapore is being held at the Suntec Convention Centre beginning July 28 through July 31.
