Android, Apple now on RIM enterprise server

RIM has launched BlackBerry Mobile Fusion that lets the device connect with Android and iOS smartphones and tablets on the same network.

The product will start early beta testing with customers in January and general availability was expected be being in late March.

RIM said the platform brings together version 5.0.3 of BlackBerry Enterprise Server and offers management capabilities for BlackBerry PlayBook tablets built on the technology of the Enterprise Server.

These will include asset management, configuration management, security and policy definition and management, remote locking and wiping for lost devices and application and software management.

These features are also offered for smartphones and tablets running Android and iOS operating systems.

Advanced features for BlackBerry smartphones will include BlackBerry Balance technology to support the use of a single device for both work and personal purposes and more than 500 IT policies and over-the-air app and software installation and management.

RIM said it will introduce self-service functionality for employees to secure lost or stolen BlackBerry smartphones and PlayBook tablets.
