AMD has released a six-core Opteron energy efficient processor for system builders that target cloud and Web 2.0 customers.
The hardware was designed to trim out every watt possible in a server system and reduce a data centre's power draw.
See Ghee Tan, marketing director for South Asia at AMD, told CRN, Tan said the processor would meet the power and density demands of the server market.
He said the low power processor was also suitable for large-scale IT projects.
"The addition of this line of energy efficient (EE) processors provides resellers with the choice of offering green-focused products to their customers," said Tan.
"The processor's feature set allow customers to deploy virtualisation, with the majority of these deployments being large-scale and based on customised systems."
The processor was also available with AMD-V(tm) and AMD-P features for additional virtualisation and power savings capabilities, Tan said.
Resellers also had the option of choosing from AMD's standard power, low-power HE and energy efficient EE editions.
This gave resellers flexibility to deploy the product that "solved their customer's problem", Tan said.
Avnet, Ingram Micro and Synnex Australia have been chosen as the distributors for the product.
