Alleged Harvey Norman robber walks right into police

A man who police allege robbed a Harvey Norman store in western Sydney was arrested after he returned to his broken down car.

A statement from NSW Police said that a 33-year-old man visited an electronics store in Liverpool on Tuesday afternoon and allegedly loaded a stolen hard drive and portable speakers into his car.

He then allegedly returned to the store to cut the security cables off two iPads and run off, with an employee giving chase. Police were informed the man pointed scissors at the staff member to prevent further pursuit. The man then drove away, clipping another employee with his car.

Police media said that no-one was injured during the incident.

Later the man's car broke down and he abandoned it on the side of the road. Police found the car a short time afterwards.

"While officers were guarding the man's broken down vehicle, he returned to the car and was arrested, allegedly in possession of the stolen items," said the statement from NSW Police.

"He was taken to Liverpool Police Station where he was charged with robbery whilst armed."

The accused was refused bail and was scheduled to appear in Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday.

While the police did not disclose the business name, Fairfax Media reported that it was the Liverpool branch of technology retailer Harvey Norman.

Inspector Ken Henry told Fairfax Media: "He could be a new contender for that show, world's dumbest criminal."
