Aladdin shines up LAN Systems security gap

Distributor LAN Systems has plugged a final gap in its security portfolio, signing Israeli vendor Aladdin to fulfil the wishes of Australian authentication customers.

Wendy O'Keeffe, GM at Sydney-based LAN Systems, said Aladdin Knowledge Systems filled a hole in the VAD's portfolio it had been seeking to fill for a long time.

"In the whole security group of products, authentication was the only thing missing," O'Keeffe said. "And this is useful for all sizes of business."

Aladdin makes eToken, an authentication device that plugs into USB ports to offer secure network and application access.

IDC figures have suggested that Aladdin has a leading 35.4 percent share of the global market for software licensing authentication tokens.

She said LAN Systems had chosen Aladdin for many reasons.

Aladdin worked with LAN Systems globally, so it made sense to sign them on in Australia also, she said.

"And it has been the most easy thing to install, so from a mobility perspective it's just fantastic,' O'Keeffe said. 'It's really nice to be able to pull it out and walk away and know your desktop is safe."

The device did not require batteries, she added.

Aladdin had an excellent track record with quality control, plus provided what LAN Systems considered to be a very cost-effective offering, she said.

"And I have found Israeli companies really fabulous – they have an excellent security focus," O'Keeffe said.

She predicted that security and mobility would continue to be strong categories – especially in combination – in the coming year.

"I think that security, from a desktop perspective, is going to be even more visible," O'Keeffe said.

Warren Stein, Asia-Pacific director for Aladdin in Asia, said LAN Systems' security business was perceived as strong.

"With its value-added services, premium training, integration and marketing support, [LAN Systems'] reseller base is good match for the Aladdin eToken range," Stein said.
