Agile Communications in $3.5m broadband deal with SA Govt

Agile Communications, the infrastructure arm of Internode, has won a contract worth around $3.5 million to connect rural SA with broadband infrastructure.

The Central Local Government Region of SA put out an expression of interest to provide broadband connection for the region in July.

Agile Communications won the deal to cover a radius of 42,000 square km region stretching from Adelaide’s northern fringe to the Flinders Ranges in October, said Simon Hackett, managing director at Internode.

Anita Crisp, region executive officer at the Central Local Government Region said broadband was becoming an essential service for businesses.

“The decision to select Internode’s infrastructure arm Agile Communications as the preferred provider was based on a combination of Internode’s very history and its previous projects in Coorong and Yorke Peninsula,” she said.

“Agile will deploy a mix of Internode’s ADSL2+ and wireless broadband, with an aim to cover the greatest possible proportion of the region’s population,” he said.

Internode also intends to extend the broadband network to the mining township of Leigh Creek, said Hackett.
