Acer notebooks hot for teachers

Acer Computer Australia, with channel partner Iris Computer, has won a three year, $4 million tender to supply 5700 Tasmanian teachers and professional support staff with notebook computers.

The vendor was awarded the contract under the Tasmanian Notebook for Teachers program. By May this year, 3200 units of the Acer TravelMate 4000 notebook would have been rolled out, Acer said.

Acer national government sales manager, Nick Hillier, said in a statement: "We are in an excellent position to meet the needs of the department over the next three years because we have a proven track record of large project rollout expertise that can deliver tailored IT solutions."

Reseller Iris would provide training and technical support throughout the rollout, he said.

The notebooks would also carry Acer's two-hour warranty express service.

The Australia-wide service guarantees that all notebooks within warranty period are repaired with two hours upon delivery. A courtesy notebook is provided until repairs are completed.
