Acer Computer Australia, in conjunction with channel partner Winthrop, has won a $27 million tender to provide 16,000 Western Australian public school teachers with TravelMate notebooks over the next three years.
Under the contract, Acer is delivering the machines and Winthrop is responsible for service, support and training.
The company has been a notebook supplier to the WA Department of Education and Training since late 2001 under its Notebook For Teachers program.
A similar contract was won back then in conjunction with Winthrop. That contract was due to run out in December this year, said Roger Heale, WA state manager at Acer.
“Re-signing the Notebook For Teachers program for the second time is the result of the commitment and ongoing relationship developed over the past three years between Acer and the department,” he said.
It is believed that other notebook suppliers such as IBM, Toshiba, HP, NEC and Ipex were also bidding for the deal.
Acer is strong in education and the contract follows a $4 million tender to supply 5700 Tasmanian teachers and support staff with Acer machines in January this year. This contract is being fulfilled in conjunction with Acer channel partner Iris Computer.
