Privacy laws on agenda at CRN Channel Meets Melbourne

Security partners separated industry spin around insurance, GRC, data protection and resilience from business realities at CRN Channel Meets Security session in Melbourne yesterday evening.

With privacy laws for small business on the cards for 2023, emerging vendors in the Australian market, and the AI story evolving with the upcoming arrival of Microsoft Security CoPilot, we had plenty to chew over.

Some of the many points raised on the night, some businesses are calculating losses from cyber incidents by focusing just on the loss of staff productivity, failing to consider loss of goodwill and other factors. One guest suggested a customer could have bought a managed detection and response service four times over with those unforeseen losses.

Partners are implementing GRC-related toolkits, the audience heard. Look out for risk, compliance and process becoming a requirement for CISO roles, if it's not already.

Despite everything that’s happened in cybersecurity in the last year or two, customer education and understanding on this topic remains a fundamental challenge for IT partners.

Another guest analysed an insurance document and estimated that most of it was focused on the likelihood of a breach, some on recovery, but little on the detection and recovery side.
