The iiNet BoB is the second-generation all-in-one SOHO device from iiNet that combines a wireless DECT phone handset in the base station. It has four 100-Base-T (Fast Ethernet) ports and a USB port for remote storage and charging. The lack of Gigabit Ethernet in such a device will deter some buyers.
BoB was designed to sit on the desk, not under it, says iiNet product manager Simon Watt (formerly Belkin's ISP sales manager).
iiNet quietly concedes that BoB isn't a profit centre for the ISP. But what it does is make the ISP's service stickier for customers. Here, BoB is perched on a Fetchtv video-on-demand device from iiNet.
The phone handset makes a break from the base station. Two DECT handsets can be configured for the device.
