Overnight, Apple revealed more details about its upcoming smartwatch, including key facts missing from the initial reveal last September, such as price, shipping dates and battery life.

The Watch, which comes in three editions, will be available for pre-order from 10 April in nine countries, including Australia. It will ship on 24 April.

While Apple said it would be available via select Apple Authorised Resellers in China and Japan, there was no talk of going via resellers in Australia, where the Watch will be sold via Apple’s retail stores and website.

The entry-level Apple Watch Sport comes in anodised aluminium cases in silver or space gray. It starts from AU$499 incl GST for the 38mm version or AU$579 incl GST for the 42mm.

The standard Apple Watch comes with stainless steel cases in two finishes: traditional and space black. It ranges from AU$799 incl GST to AU$1,629 incl GST.

Across the range, the Watch comes with three different leather straps, a stainless steel link bracelet and Milanese loop, and a black or white Sport Band.

The high-end 'Edition' version of the Apple Watch costs from AU$14,000 and comes in yellow or rose 18-carat gold cases.

Apple claims the Watch has "all-day" battery, providing 18 hours of life during a "typical" day.

The Watch is charged using a magnetic charger that snaps to the back of the device, combining Apple's MagSafe technology with inductive charging.

The Apple Watch can be personalised with faces ranging from traditional analogue such as the Chronograph face, to the "information-rich" Modular face, or "beautifully animated" butterflies and jellyfish on the Motion face.

The Apple Watch requires iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus running iOS 8.2.

The Watch face can be customised, including adding local weather or calendar events, while the 'Glances' function provides quick summaries of information.

Glances can also show the user what song is playing, and when a new message arrives, the 'Taptic Engine' alerts the user with a gentle tap.

One of the most obvious and immediate applications for the Apple Watch is as a fitness tracker. Each Monday it can suggest a new daily 'Move' goal, while the Workout app provides more detailed measurement during activity.

Apple has released the 'WatchKit' software developers kit to developers, allowing them to design apps for the Apple Watch.
