1. 4D runs into trouble

It was a Microsoft gold data centre partner, Microsoft gold midmarket solution provider, and Microsoft silver hosting partner. High-profile clients listed on the 4D website also included the Department of Health and Aging.

Documents revealed years of difficulties, with falling revenue and contracts not renewed by the Department of Defence. 4D also suffered a high staff turnover. Some company assets were picked up by 4Data Hall 1, controlled by 4D director Andrew Caudle.

2. Tier 5 falls into liquidation

The company was located in a former Mitsubishi car plant in Adelaide, with overhead cranes for dropping in data centre components. Premier Jay Weatherill was later quoted saying the company would be spending $110 million at the site. Tier 5 had planned to build other data centre “parks” for wholesale tenants, according to its web site.

It went into administration in May 2015, then liquidators were appointed in September after an attempt to sell the company failed.

3. Five Leading Edge Telecoms stores go into liquidation

A Telstra spokesperson told CRN in September the carrier was “in discussions with Leading Edge on the future direction they wish to take”.

4. POS distributor Mecari collapses

Documents released in August by the liquidators estimated millions were owed, with unsecured creditors numbering more than 100.

Picking up the pieces was Goodson Imports, a 65-year-old importer and distributor which told CRN it had bought most of Mecari’s IP.

Less than a year before the collapse, Mecari changed its name from POS POS and sold an undisclosed equity stake to another company called Minerva Solutions. At that time, the company cited uncertainties relating to technology commoditisation, competition and changing customer expectations.

5. Optus reseller Yatango Mobile Australia goes under

The reverse-listing fell through, then in September 2015 administrators were appointed to Yatango Mobile Australia. Two related companies followed into administration in October.

There is also a Yatango Shopping site that lists smartphones, tablets, laptops and other technology. Mobile phone customers of Yatango could earn points which can then be used to shop on the Yatango Shopping site.

6. BBY falls into administration

BBY analysts might have already been known to some in the IT industry, as some had commentated on the valuations of IT companies such as PIPE Networks, as well as provided broader economic commentary.

KPMG previously told creditors that missing funds could take months to trace.

7. IVNX enters liquidation

The company was formed after iTelecom Wholesale bought enterprise business IVNE, which provided "PaaS and TechOps-as-a-Service to CSPs, MVNOs, carriers, media, utilities, insurance and other organisations".

The group also includes IVNO, which struck a deal to provide prepaid mobile services through university business The Co-op.

8. Data People goes under

Data People was four years old and used iSeek, Global Switch, Equinix and Vocus data centres. Avnet, Bluechip Infotech, Distribution Central and Ingram Micro were among creditors.

9. ICT 123 Holdings enters liquidation

Financier Moneytech sought to wind up the holding company to recover money, before it went into liquidation in February.

When ICT 123 Pty Ltd went under in 2014 it owed money to various dealers. Many of the debts were for rebates and commissions, CRN was told at the time.

10. School supplier hits the wall

The company was more than a decade old and had previously deployed wireless for Catholic Education Office of Parramatta. A case study published by Cisco reported that EDC tested and rolled out equipment and infrastructure for 77 primary and secondary schools.

A decision was made to wind up EDC in May.
