What telco services and technologies do you specialise in?
Over the Wire specialises in corporate and wholesale communications, primarily high-speed data links and SIP voice. We deliver private network and internet access and even though this is mainly delivered over fixed-line data links, we also provide 3G and 4G links.
When did your company first get involved in this area?
In 2007, when we built our first data centre and network offerings.
What are your telecommunications credentials?
We are a registered carriage service provider, which means we comply with the necessary government requirements. At this point we have not applied for a carrier licence, although we are actively looking at doing so.
Who are your main carrier partners or distributors for telco technology?
We have more than 20 wholesale relationships, with Telstra one of the largest. We also have relationships with small providers of unique networks in limited areas. The core of our network is Cisco and Brocade infrastructure.
Heard of any cool developments in the telco space recently?
Telecommunications is constantly evolving, sometimes at a very quick pace. We love being part of such a dynamic industry! In Australia the fastest-moving components revolve around the work that NBN is doing on access to the HFC networks and the rollout of FTTN.
Can you tell us about a recent telco deployment?
We recently deployed a solution for a customer that had previously used a very large carrier for their network links and voice. We won the business based on a combination of price, solution and customer service. The customer was so happy that they also moved their server equipment out of a data centre and onto our cloud platform.
What is driving customers’ telco projects?
Most customers who are coming up to a contract review period are being driven to search out alternatives based on bandwidth/price/performance and customer service. Being a smaller niche player allows us to be very flexible and proactive with customer requirements. We relish being able to provide that more personalised touch and clients like the fact that they can very quickly speak to a network engineer for any changes they need to make.
Telecommunications is...
The building block of any organisation's IT strategy.
