Where do you host customer data?

Global Switch in Ultimo is CloudRecover’s primary data centre. We also have duplicate standby data centres around Australia depending on the customer’s location and requirements.

When did you first get involved in data centre services?

CloudRecover began in 1999, originally as a physical offsite storage provider for data centre operations, before selling that business to Iron Mountain and focusing on online backup and virtual disaster recovery. Since 2011, we have been providing hosted production servers as customers have found increased reliability in using their CloudRecover-hosted instance over their local one.

What credentials do you have that apply to the data centre?

The primary Sydney data centre is located at Global Switch in Ultimo. This Tier III data centre is certified for ISO 9001, 14001 and 27001 standards, and is listed on the Australian Federal Government Data Centre Facilities panel. CloudRecover also uses ISO 27001, FIPS 140-2 certified and PCI compliant software to deliver uncompromised security. 

Have you heard about any cool developments in the data centre space recently?

Sydney has made its mark in the top 10 global co-location ecosystems, ranking eighth in   Cloudscene’s   2017 global top 10 co-location ecosystems report. 

Can you tell us about a recent deployment you have done?

In 2016, we invested in infrastructure security and performance improvements with deployment of our high-performance architecture. That included geographically dispersed clusters with mirrored all-flash storage deployed across a 10Gbps metro area network. Recently, CloudRecover partnered with Asigra, a data protection vendor.

What is driving customers’ data centre investments?

We are seeing fewer and fewer customers invest in their own data centres. The arrival of hyper-scale data centre providers such as AWS and Azure has dramatically questioned the viability of onsite customer data centres.
