An eye for an “i”

An eye for an “i”

Here at Rabid Reseller we've been working extra hard lately. That no-good nephew, aka Sk8rboi, has left us in the lurch again, so we're on our own once more, having to actually deal with real customers. Normally, that's the nephew's job while we run the "back-office".

We're not quite sure what's wrong with him - something to do with his eyes it seems.

Anyway, whatever he's done to himself this time requires a trip to the USA to get it fixed.

He says that's the only place where he can get the special eye patch he needs. We never even saw this mysterious injury that requires such a high-tech solution which is only available overseas.

He just grabbed his gear and his passport and caught the first cab to the airport.

We hope they can fix him up and send him home soon. We're not accustomed to dealing directly with customers.

Ah, here's an email from the nephew now. There's been a delay getting his eye patch fitted. Seems there's a queue for this procedure. But then, that's why President Obama is spending all that money on their health care system, to reduce the queues.

Guess it's too soon for the money to have trickled through the system to have any effect on the real world yet. Still, you'd think they'd let patients wait inside - he says he has to wait in line in the street.

Meanwhile, we'd better restock some shelves. We'd forgotten how much the little nuisance does around here until he was gone. Now, which shelf does this DDR3 RAM live on?

Ah! Another email from the USA. Hope he's using an Internet café and not racking up a huge bill on our roaming mobile account. Let's see what's he telling us. Good news! He's got the eye patch and he's feeling much better and he'll be home soon! We can hardly wait.

Well, that didn't take long, it seems like only yesterday he was sending emails from downtown USA and now he's walking through the door already. Must say, he doesn't look any worse for wear, those Yanks really know their stuff.

And they only charged him $500 - we were expecting something like $5000 after hearing the horror stories about the US medical system.

Hang on, he's not even wearing his eye patch. So the operation must have been a success if he can take the thing off after only a couple of days. We'll ask him.

Okay, so it wasn't an eye patch he needed it was an eye pad. What's the difference?

That's just a language thing surely. Like, we say "tomato" and they say "tomayto". And they spell eye pad differently too? No surprise there, the Yanks spell everything differently. So it's spelled iPad then? Whatever. Glad he's back in the shop so we can put our feet up out the back again.

Gotta go! Coffee's getting cold!
