Telstra suffers another outage

Telstra has been flooded with complaints once again after suffering its third nationwide network outage in two months.

Complaints began to spike at around 11am Sydney time on Tuesday from customers unable to use Telstra’s mobile network.

Telstra told customers via Twitter that it had received reports of customers facing difficulties making calls on its network, and was investigating as a priority.

A Telstra spokesperson told CRN the issue is mainly affecting customers in Victoria and Tasmania, but was impacting other states sporadically. They added that Telstra would provide further information once it is available.

This morning's event is the second outage in just five days for Telstra.

Prior to that, on 9 February, an “embarrassing human error” took out Telstra’s mobile, home phone and internet services for around three hours. Telstra confirmed the issue occurred when a non-functioning node was taken down, but restarted before customers had been transferred elsewhere.

The telco apologised by offering customers a free day of data.

Last Thursday, Telstra's network went down again for several hours. Telstra is still investigating how that outage occurred, and chief executive Andy Penn confirmed it would offer customers another free data day on 3 April as an apology.

The next day, Telstra customers were cut off from accessing Amazon Web Service's Sydney data centre as a result of a third-party routing issue.

Update: A Telstra spokesperson confirmed the issue has been resolved as of 1:14pm.

More to come.
