VMware Australia managing director Duncan Bennet has resigned from his position after six years with the virtualisation vendor.

His role will be filled by VMware APJ vice president Sharat Sinha until a permanent replacement is found.

“Duncan took some time out of the business earlier this year to support his wife," a VMware spokesperson told CRN.

"Now, after going through that journey, he has made the difficult decision to leave VMware so he can continue to support her through her ongoing recovery.”

Sinha said Bennet had made a "significant contribution" to the business and wished him well.

Bennet joined VMware in 2010 as director of sales for the commercial and SMB business, before being promoted to managing director a year later.

Prior to his stint with the company, Bennet spent four years as the managing director of Forte Software and nine years prior to that as the managing director of Sun Microsystems. He also founded and served as the head of Advocait for two years.

Bennet’s departure comes just two months after channel director John Donovan left VMware to join relationship management software vendor ForgeRock.
