Australian-headquartered company Vix Technology has won a US$30 million contract to roll out a new payment system for the city of Dallas’ public transport.
The Melbourne-based company, which is behind upgrades to Melbourne’s Myki public transport system, will implement a contactless payment system based on Vix’s eO account-based open payment collection platform.
Dallas Area Rapid Transit customers will have the ability to pay for public transport via NFC-enabled smartphones, third party or agency-issued transit cards, or use EMV contactless cards.
“The system we are delivering in Dallas will allow DART to spend more resources developing and improving their transportation network and less time on payment collection and processing,” said Vix chief executive Steve Gallagher.
“Account-based systems are the way forward and we are excited to work with DART on this project.”
Vix has landed a string of smart payment systems for transport networks around the world, including Rome, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Singapore and New Zealand.
Earlier this year, Vix rolled out smartcards for Melbourne Storm club members to pay for food and drinks in a partnership with Victorian AWS partner DiUS.
Vix also landed a $27 million contract to design, install and operate a single smartcard system for Malaysia’s public transport system.
