Discount supermarket Aldi will start selling a $279 dual-SIM Android phone called the Bauhn Sphere from 1 November.
The new Bauhn Sphere is a 3G handset with a 5 inch screen, 32GB of memory, MT6582 Quad Core running Android 4.4.
Along with the new phone, Aldi has also made changes to its pre-paid Value Packs that now include free calls and texts between Aldi customers and are priced at $10 to $35. The updated plans come into effect on 3 November.
Aldi will also be introducing a 30-day 1.5GB data plan for $16.50. A $30 data plan which includes 3GB is also available.
Survey results from Telsyte released earlier this year showed that outright phone purchases have grown in popularity in Australia, with increasing numbers choosing to buy phones from places other than major carriers.
The Bauhn Sphere joins various another budget-priced smartphones the market, including the $229 4G Kogan Agora, $149 Lumia 530 and the Moto E which was introduced at $179 earlier this year.
