Mass merchants, premium resellers stock iPad

Apple has accredited Apple premium resellers (APR) and some pro partners as 'authorised iPad resellers' as the much anticipated e-book device went on sale today across the country.

APRs include mass-merchants retailers David Jones, Myer, JB Hi-Fi as well as Next Byte and Mac 1 shops.

My Mac stores and Computer Now shops have also been accredited as authorised iPad resellers.

Apple has confirmed that it has a "number of Apple authorised resellers offering the iPad from today." But the company would not reveal exactly which shops.  

Apple said stockists details can be found onlineCRN has searched the list and can confirm premium resellers are included.

CRN has contacted a select number of tier two resellers - those that are classified as authorised resellers but don't purchase stock from Apple - which confirmed they are not stocking the iPad today.

Mark Santos, general manager of Mac Centre in Sydney's inner city suburb of Surry Hills said he isn't stocking the iPad but hoped he would at some point in the future.

Apple is selling the iPad across its own Apple retail and online stores including its newest Sydney store in the eastern suburbs of Bondi, which opened today.

Peter Kleine from the Apple premium reseller shop My Mac in Bondi Junction said the opening of the Apple retail store in the same suburb is "very good".

"We think it will strengthen the business," he said. "We are very much about the services we offer and the training we offer.

"The store will support the brand. And the more businesses customers get introduced they will look for more support

Fans lined up for hours outside the retail store in Sydney for their chance to get their hands on the device.
