Winc appoints Steve Rutter as technology solutions lead, replacing Karl Sice

Winc, formerly Staples, has appointed Steve Rutter to the role of general manager of technology solutions, the position most recently held by Karl Sice before his departure in September last year.

The appointment follows an extensive internal and external search to fill the position, with Winc ultimately promoting Rutter from within the business. He has been with the company since June 2016, and brings strong experience in technology sales growth, performance and execution to the role, Winc general manager of solutions Jarad Nass said.

“Steve brings a wealth of technology experience to the role having spent significant time in senior roles in well-known organisations like Hewlett-Packard, Compaq and the Digital Equipment Corporation,” Nass said.

“Steve is a passionate believer in improving performance across key business disciplines, including operations, financial, people and customers. I’m confident that this focus will help him successfully lead the Technology Solutions team.”

Commenting on his promotion, Rutter said: “I am thrilled to take on this new challenge under our new exciting brand of Winc and to build on our strong track record of making our customers’ workplaces more creative, productive and fulfilling.

“We are in a unique position to truly enable their business with technology solutions which enables our customers to deploy mobility solutions, prepare for cyber threats inside and outside their organisation and unlock productivity in their organisation.”

Winc also announced the appointment of Daniel Dainton, who joins the company as national software and cloud lead. Dainton brings more than 20 years of experience to the role, most recently serving as senior business manager, lifecycle services, at Ingram Micro.

Rutter said Dainton was a proven leader in emerging technology and cloud solutions.

“His appointment reinforces our commitment to providing our customers with the most current solutions and help them future-proof their businesses,” he added.

In January, Winc also hired Kirstie Hepburn out of Sigma Pharmaceuticals, where she was general manager of sales.

“Kirstie is a transformative sales leader who has an impressive record in double-digit sales growth, cutting-edge e-commerce practices and business transformation with leading brands like Sigma Pharmaceuticals, Coles and Lloyds,” Winc ANZ chief executive Darren Fullerton told staff in an internal memo. 

Sice left the company shortly after it was rebranded. He went on to join ASI Solutions as head of acquisitions and strategy.​
