Vodafone extends iPhone 5 deliveries to weekend

Vodafone will continue to deliver iPhone 5 handsets throughout the weekend in an attempt to meet "unprecedented" pre-order demand.

The telco, which has traditionally limited handset deliveries from Monday to Friday, will continue shipping the iPhone 5 to customers over the launch weekend (22-23 September 2012).

Vodafone said it would deliver "thousands" of pre-ordered iPhone 5 handsets to customers in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane from 8am on Friday, 21 September and throughout the weekend.

“The iPhone 5 is a hot commodity and our customers are keen to get their hands on it as soon as they can,"  said Katie Turkal, general manager of devices at Vodafone said in a statement.

"We’ve upped the ante on shipping the iPhone and have put in place a special daily delivery service so thousands of our customers don’t have to wait any longer."

Customers can track their pre-order's current whereabouts by entering their order number on Vodafone's website.

Extra data

Vodafone also announced it will be adding extra data allowances to select iPhone 5 plans.

Customers on a $50 or $60 24-month plan will receive an additional 500MB of data per month for the first 12 months. Customers on $80 and $100 plans over 24 months will receive an extra 1GB of data for the first 12 months (offer ends 31st October 2012).

Vodafone currently offers the iPhone 5 on plans ranging from $30 per month (excl. handset repayments) to $100 per month with no handset fee.

It is the only telco not offering the smartphone on a 4G plan due to its lack of LTE network. The iPhone 5 will run on Vodafone's newly-announced 3G+ (dual carrier HSPA+) network. Its LTE services are expected to come online next year.
