Vocus confirms that a damaged optic fibre cable caused an issue with a third party interconnect in Melbourne.
The telco confirmed as early as 8:55 am AEST yesterday, with engineers raising the issue with the third-party carrier involved for further investigation. Vocus did not reveal the carrier.
The fibre break was identified as the possible cause, with engineers finding the fault location on 12:28 pm AEST. Vocus confirmed the cable was partially damaged at 3:00 pm AEST.
Technicians from the third party provider have started digging within the vicinity of the cables to evaluate the damage and allow for repairs where necessary.
Civil works commenced at 4:30 pm with cable splicing to follow.
Vocus confirmed as of 1:30 am today that the splicing has completed and that affected services should be restored.
The interconnect has been repaired as of 7:14 am AEST, with affected services restored.
