VMware brings cloud desktop service to Australia

VMware has claimed it is now the most "geographically distributed" desktop-as-a-service provider, after adding Australia as a new location this week.

VMware Horizon Air's new Australian presence joins four USA locations, plus services in the UK, France and Germany in the vendor's pursuit for desktop market share.

VMware Horizon Air will be available in Australia within this quarter.

"This is a solution we are particularly excited about, and are looking forward to showcasing its great capabilities to our customers," said national practice manager David Barclay for Data#3, VMware end user computing partner of the year.

The vendor also launched Project Enzo – an initiative to develop "unified management of on-premises and cloud-based virtual workspace services (desktops and applications) through a single web-based portal".

"Project Enzo will see a brand new set of technologies as a new hybrid cloud-scale architecture that combines the economic benefits of cloud-based VMware virtual desktops and application technology, with the simplicity of hyper-converged infrastructure to transform the IT experience," read a statement from VMware.
