Australian security specialist VMinformer has signed four resellers to meet the growing number of vulnerabilities accompanying the corporate exodus to virtualisation.
Melbourne's IPSec, Sydney’s tru Information Security Management, CommsNet Group from Canberra and Shearwater Solutions that is in the ACT and Sydney will offer VMInformer's novel take on security in virtualised systems.
VMinformer founder and chief technology officer John Reeman said they were chosen for their understanding of the security challenges in virtual environments.
He said companies were applying traditional security approaches to the virtual environment and coming up short.
“Companies need to think carefully about the way they implement security in a virtual environment,” Reeman said. “They need to design well, which means looking at their architecture and identifying where the risks are.”
VMinformer identified to administrators in a graphical dashboard critical vulnerabilities in their virtualised systems before they had the chance to fester. And it policed business assets, server stores and policies for compliance, presenting these graphically to admins.
Raymond Kantor, general manager of Shearwater Solutions said virtualisation presented a number of security challenges for companies including around compliance.
“The problem is the hypervisor isn’t inherently secure and hardening guide standards are difficult to audit and control in such a fluid environment,” Kantor said.
Shearwater saw further opportunities stemming from the fact that the latest v2.0 industry standard for payment card security made specific mention of virtualisation.
Simon Coffey, managing director of Tru Information Security Management said his customers were becoming more aware of the need to review security policies as they virtualised.
“VMinformer uniquely delivers on those requirements and is an ideal addition to Tru ISM's portfolio of virtualised and cloud security solutions,” he said.
Reeman said VMinformer, which won the SC Magazine innovation award at the AusCERT security conference this year, will name a fifth Australian reseller in the next few weeks and new partners in North America, Canada, Britain and Japan.
