UXC scores SAP first with Aussie power giant

UXC Oxygen has announced an SAP Cloud for Customer rollout to an Australian utilities customer that manages $9 billion worth of assets, in the first deployment of its kind in the Asia-Pacific.

The project for electricity, gas and water infrastructure giant Jemena saw UXC Oxygen deploy SAP Cloud for Customer in eight weeks with fixed scope, timeline and fees.

Jemena "builds, owns and manages" utilities infrastructure relied on by "millions" of Australians on the east coast, according to UXC Oxygen.

The SAP partner claimed the work was the first SAP Cloud for Customer implementation in the Asia-Pacific. The value of the project was not disclosed.

The new system, which UXC Oxygen calls a "rapid deployment solution", allows Jemena a "unified view of customers" across its electricity, gas and water divisions for the first time, and provides mobile access for field staff.

"Our customer information was located in different systems and separated across the company. We had no visibility of the day-to-day activities our customer service teams undertook," said Jemena's senior SAP enterprise architect Judith Caball.

"We now have a central location and one view of customers across our entire business… We have also gained mobility out-of-the-box for no extra cost."

The solution encompassed "account and contact management, visit planning, opportunity management and ready-to-use pre-delivered reporting", all without customisation.

Jemena also sought a subscription solution that would not interfere with its existing traditional SAP systems.

"We were in the middle of a business-critical upgrade of our on-premise SAP systems and didn't want the new implementation to interfere," said Caball.

Jemena employs more than 1,300 staff and, along with its services-focused sister company Zinfra, is 60 percent owned by State Grid Corp of China and 40 percent held by Singapore Power.
