Unixpac has signed on as the exclusive Australian distributor for security vendor BlueCat Networks.
After several months of negotiations, the distributor will now carry the US vendor’s range of UNIX-based network appliances, including its flagship DNS/DHCP secure appliance, Adonis.
The deal also includes the company’s Meridius range of secure email gateways and Proteus IPAM appliances.
For Unixpac managing director, Tom Piotrowski, the new offering would provide a way for high-level integrators to reduce security administration costs.
“Systems and security architects all do a textbook approach to implementing DNS services which is time consuming and require high-level skills,” he said.
“The Adonis range offers a way to simplify and automate the process dramatically.”
The new offering would also allow Unixpac to grow outside of its security niche into the wider IP network space.
“IP administration technology has been dominated by Lucent Technologies,” he said. “But BlueCat will launch its own range in February giving us a an inexpensive alternative.”
Despite a number of recent deals, including LAN control and enforcement vendor ConSentry Networks, and Iron Port Unixpac was not in the middle of a ramp-up, Piotrowski said.
“Technologies often outgrow our capacity to promote them so we regularly rotate vendors,” he said. “We have a lot of expertise in this space at growing new products so vendors trust us.”
Looking at the year ahead Piotrowski also said the company was unlikely to expand its support infrastructure beyond its current Sydney headquarters.
“The business has changed dramatically in the last seven years and we now do a lot of virtual business so a local presence isn’t as critical,” he said. “We work very closely with big systems integrators and they have their own extensive networks of regional offices.”
