Unitrends brings MSP program to Australia

Data protection vendor Unitrends has brought its MSP program to Australia.

The program rests on a version of the company’s backup appliance tailored to MSPs by the addition of multi-tenant management tools, plus a pay-by-the-month deal spread over three years.

Unitrends’ management layer runs in the cloud, so MSPs can locate the devices wherever it suits them and end-customers, but manage them from a single console.

The company currently uses Bluechip Infotech and Channel Success as its distributors and they’ll be asked to take the new product to market.

Unitrends has offered the MSP-centric version of its appliance in its US home since late 2017 some time and with considerable success. The company’s Director of Sales for APAC Dean Saunders told CRN that Australia’s similarities with the US made a move to Australia sensible.

Saunders added that conversations with 20 MSPs about the product have proven “quite fruitful” and he expects that between 150 and 200 MSPs will take up the product in the next year.

Those that do will pay at least US$102 (AU$144) a month over the 36 month life of a deal. That sum buys the company’s entry-level MSP-1 product. Prices scale as MSPs add storage or larger-capacity appliances.

End-customers will need to run Unitrends own backup software, but are free to use tape or cloud storage services as an additional storage tier beyond the Unitrends box.
