Uni students linked via BigAir

Students at three of Australia's leading universities, Macquarie University in Sydney, RMIT University in Melbourne and Griffith University in Queensland are benefiting from new high-speed broadband from BigAir and distributor, Star-Tech Communications.

Together they offer students unlimited pre-paid and post-paid Internet access packages, which facilitate online learning, enhanced research capabilities, past study notes and past exams.

The university students also received backhaul installations at a cost of up to 40 per cent less than competitors' copper and fibre-optic offerings.

Richard Parker managing director at Star-Tech said the upgrade would enable students through online collaboration, conferencing and research, BigAir's superior high speed broadband supply, with speeds up to 10Mbps.

"Since BigAir has a carrier-grade wireless broadband network, it was able to install the high-speed broadband connection within just a few days - beating other suppliers hands down on speed, service and pricing,” he said.

Around 1,500 student dorms are benefiting from the combination of BigAir's wholesale symmetric broadband and Star-Tech's automated in-building distribution, on-line subscription and billing and help desk services.

Star-Tech engineers were able to use a complex combination of proven technologies to deliver into often-difficult campus environments.

Griffith University campus will soon also be Wi-Fi enabled, said Parker.
