Trend Micro has hired former Kaspersky Labs managing director Peter Hewett as its new channel director for Australia and New Zealand.
In the new role, Hewett will be responsible for the security vendor's partner strategy across all channel partners and distributors in the region.
Hewett was most recently country manager for cyber security firm Darktrace, having joined in June 2015 after a 10-month stint as managing director for Kaspersky Asia Pacific.
He started his security career with Sophos in 2004 and held various positions with the company over seven years. He was also sales director for Westcon from 2011 to 2014.
Trend Micro APAC managing director Dhanya Thakkar said the vendor was looking to double its Australian sales in 2017, and that Hewett would be an integral part of its growth strategy.
"Expanding our focus while ensuring our existing channel is fully supported for success will help us accelerate growth in 2017," he said.
“Our market-leading solutions are powered by the Trend Micro Smart Protection Network, which provides all customers — regardless of size or location — with comprehensive, proactive global threat intelligence and protection. This contributes to high customer satisfaction, which in turn generates ongoing renewal revenue and new upsell opportunities for Trend Micro’s complementary solutions.”
Trend Micro is distributed in Australia through Dicker Data, Avnet, Ingram Micro and Rhipe.
