Toll Group starts selling secure cloud email, file share

Toll Group has launched a suite of secure email, file share and collaboration services based on technology from UK vendor Egress Software.

Toll's Secure Digital Exchange, which was launched at the Technology in Government Summit in Canberra this week, is a digital encryption service to protect companies' confidential information.

The potential market opportunity is vast, given Toll's size – it employs 40,000 people across 1,200 sites in more than 50 countries. Toll is targeting clients in healthcare, professional services, utilities and government with Secure Digital Exchange.

Egress hosts its data across "four key service providers" – Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure, which both have local availability zones in Australia, as well as UK Fast and Skyscape Cloud Services.

The vendor's Switch technology, which is certified by the UK government for email and file encryption software, "utilises identity-based AES 256-bit encryption using FIPS 140-2 approved cryptographic libraries".

"Egress Switch hides the complexity of encryption using a revolutionary patent protected architecture and is the true evolution of PKI based encryption systems," according to the company's website.

The deal with Egress is a significant advance for Toll's IT offering, which currently includes data warehousing, document imaging and archiving.

Felicity Herron, executive general manager, Toll Priority, said: “Today’s launch of Toll Secure Digital Exchange, powered by Egress, represents a very exciting addition to the suite of services Toll Group has been delivering for over 127 years and supports our continued drive to deliver excellent service and value back to our customers.

“Egress is a leading provider of data security services and this partnership will enable our customers’ access to a product that is used by more than 1,000 organisations across sectors including government, regulatory bodies, financial and professional services, private healthcare, energy and utilities.”

The full suite of Secure Digital Exchange services comprises:

  • Secure email: digital encryption for information sharing across multiple devices and applications.
  • Secure workspace: allows internal users and external third parties to access documents and information collaboration tools.
  • Secure managed file transfer: transfer large volumes of encrypted data from one network to another.
  • Secure digital mailroom: digitisation of physical mail that can be securely viewed and retrieved from any internet-enabled device.
  • Secure web forms
