Telstra has won a competitive tender worth $243 million to provide a wide area network to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
The 10-year contract sees the carrier take over the service currently provided by Pacnet, which Telstra acquired in 2014 for US$697 million.
"The new contract will provide expanded telecommunications network capacity and more stable and reliable infrastructure to support the evolving needs of the department and government," said a department spokesperson.
"The department’s ICT network relies on WAN services to connect over 160 sites in Australia and overseas on a 24-7 basis."
