Telstra has launched a portable 4G hotspot that gives pre-paid customers access to the company's 4G LTE network in covered areas.
The battery-powered pre-paid wi-fi 4G can connect up to five wi-fi enabled gadgets to Telstra's 4G network simultaneously.
The hotspot will be available from tomorrow for $169 with 5GB of data over 30 days.
Additional recharge cards and e-vouchers come in a variety of denominations ranging from $20 to $100.
Telstra is quoting download speeds of up to 40Mbps for customers on the 4G network and a maximum upload speed of 10Mbps.
The pre-paid wi-fi 4G is the first 4G LTE mobile wi-fi released in Australia for pre-paid customers. It follows on from Telstra's fixed plan mobile wi-fi 4G.
Weighing in at 105g, the hotspot comes with an LED display which provides wi-fi name and password, signal strength, number of devices connected and battery level.
The device also comes with a web-based control portal which allows the user to adjust network security and wi-fi range settings from an internet browser.
According to Telstra, the device's battery provides up to four hours of continuous use. Standby mode, meanwhile, is rated at 100 hours.
The hotspot is Telstra's ninth 4G product in Australia. Previous 4G hardware releases have included the HTC Velocity 4G, HTC Titan 4G and Samsung Tab 8.9.
