Telstra and not-for-profit distie end 16-year partnership
Luke Kenny

Not-for-profit distributor Church Resources has ended its relationship with long-term partner Telstra after the pair were unable to agree on an extension to the mobile deal.

Telstra began offering telephony services in 1999 to Church Resource’s members from not-for-profit organisations.

But after 16 years, the partnership recently came to an end when the pair could not agree on commercial terms for several smaller deals.

Church Resources procures ICT solutions to 20,000 members from both religious and non-religious not-for-profit organisations.

CRN understands Church Resources had asked for the same discounted rate offered to one large contract to be provided to smaller deals.

"Telstra has a long standing history of supporting the not-for-profit sector including the provision of sector-based discounted pricing, which will be maintained," a spokesperson said.

"Telstra no longer has a relationship with Church Resources, as the parties were unable to reach a mutual commercially viable position."

Church Resources recently signed a five-year deal with Optus to offer members its mobile and data deals through Ethan Group.

“We want to evolve our members into the mobility space. One of the big things for our customers is the ability to procure products online. We’ll continue to refine our mobile plans [with Optus], see how they compare and make sure their deals are able to compete," Church Resources CEO Luke Kenny told CRN.

Church Resources offers membership to all not-for-profit organisations for free, and provides members with ICT services from a range of companies including Microsoft, Apple, and Sharp.

Updated 23 February to clarify Telstra's position. CRN apologises for any misrepresentation.
