Melbourne-based managed services provider Technetics Consulting has been awarded a multi-year contract with the Australian College of Optometry, beating out 85 bidders to land the new client.

The tender, which ran late last year, began more as an exercise of testing the water, said Technetics managing director Zoran Tasevski.

Tasevski told CRN that the client "was very happy with their existing provider" and was just running the tender after appointing a new chief executive.

"They said they were just shopping around, but we put something together that was so compelling, they moved away from an organisation they were apparently happy with," he added.

Technetics, which was 29th in the 2013 CRN Fast50, will devote five staff members to the integration stage of the account, which should be worth up to $250,000 over the next couple of years.

The Australian College of Optometry is "heavily an Apple house", said Tasevski, including laptops, desktops and servers.

Tasevski added that 80 percent of Technetics' new accounts over the past year or so had been predominantly Apple. "Coincidence or an emerging shift in the market? I'm not sure."

Technetics is in the process of getting the Apple Consultants Network certification.

Technetics will start by rolling out Kaseya remote monitoring and management software as well as the ConnectWise helpdesk system.

Tasevski told CRN that he was looking forward to working with Kaseya to improve the system's Mac support. "We are looking forward to working closely with Kaseya to further improve their RMM on the Apple front."

He added that Technetics would drive the college's cloud migration, most likely Office 365 for SaaS and Amazon Web Services for IaaS.
