Synology allies with Computergate to amplify storage business

Taiwan-based storage vendor Synology wants a piece of the ANZ enterprise market, and is taking steps to strengthen its presence in the region. 

At a launch in Sydney last week, Synology unveiled plans to answer growing demand for cloud and storage solutions from the SME market and demonstrated a lineup of storage hardware, hybrid cloud backup and security solutions, and on-cloud office collaboration software.

Synology has partnered with Melbourne-based Computergate to establish Synology Replacement Service Australia, which, according to the vendor, will provide next-day replacement hardware in the event of device failure for all rack-mounted models from the company’s 16-series onwards.

Computergate chief executive Mario Greco said his company was well positioned to offer the replacement service, given its strong presence for network-attached storage supply and maintenance throughout ANZ.

“With their advanced replacement service in place, we hold all their stock locally, then on their request we’ll actually ship it to the customer, and they will swap it over,” he said.

“What we’re doing on top of that is complementing that service with our own on-site extended warranty service.”

The replacement service represents a big part of Synology’s push to capture more of the SME business in the region.

“We’re a national organisation, our services and coverage extends to Asia and New Zealand,” Greco said. “Our reach is going to be significant for them once they’ve got this off the ground.”

Synology’s enterprise lineup included two high-capacity rack servers in the FS3017 and the RS4017, a hybrid cloud backup-solution called Synology C2 offering site recovery and backup options, and a cloud collaboration suite called Office that harks to the likes of Google’s Apps and Microsoft’s Office 365 for connected productivity.

The C2 cloud is currently hosted in Europe, but the company announced plans to build their own datacentre in Taipei.

Bluechip Infotech, Central Security Distribution, Multimedia Technology, and Silicon Memory Technologies are Synology’s current Australian hardware distributors.
