Sydney reseller reborn after acquiring Leading Edge firm

A 22-year-old Sydney reseller has acquired a former Leading Edge Group business and relaunched.

Hal Data Services acquired Computer Care Australia, with the newly combined company trading as Hal Group and offering security, leasing and procurement, wireless, cloud and voice services.

Hal Group is 98 percent owned by ASX-listed Armidale Investment Corporation, which owns approximately a third of Leading Edge Group. Computer Care Australia was formerly owned by Leading Edge Group, and will now trade as Hal Assist.

It will allow Hal Group to "expand and evolve" more than two decades after the company was founded in 1993 selling selling refurbished IBM mainframes.

The scope of its services under the new brand Hal Group is nothing if not ambitious, with the 30-person operation also offering managed services, unified communications and consulting services. Hal Group lists Huawei, Kaseya, Lenovo, HP, Toshiba, Storagecraft, Kaspersky and others among its partners.

Computer Care Australia provides services for SMBs, looking after servers and desktops, with a large percentage of customers in the medical sector as well as real estate.

The combined company has seven sub-brands: Hal Assist, Hal Data, Hal Secure, Hal Voice, Hal Wireless, Hal Cconsult and Hal Cloud. The company’s head office is in Sydney with a sales office is in Western Australia.

Hal Group’s technical director is Peet Jordaan, who spent more than a decade at Westcon, including in South Africa and Australia.
