Sun builds on Unified Storage lineup

The company hopes that the new 7310 system will add to the appeal of the Unified Storage line. First launched late last year, the line combines traditional storage systems with management tools.

The company claims that the systems will allow not only make storage systems more stable and efficient, but also allow administrators to more closely manage and analyse their storage hardware.

"The new Sun Storage 7310 expands the line and opens up a door for customers to more widely deploy high availability clustered storage and experience the power and economic benefits of Unified Storage," said John Fowler, Sun's executive vice president of systems.

The 7310 line will offer a capacity of up to 96TB of storage while users will have the option of adding solid state drives to cache as much as 600GB of data for faster performance. Sun estimates that the new systems will be as much as three times more power efficient than traditional storage systems.
