Sophos secures the Reef Hotel Casino

Anti-virus vendor Sophos has started a security software rollout at The Reef Hotel Casino in Queensland.

The hotel is rolling out Sophos’ AntiVirus software to protect its 120 workstations and 10 Windows-based servers. It would also deploy Sophos PureMessage software to protect its email gateway.

Scott Harris, The Reef Hotel Casino’s IT Manager, said it recognised the need a security system to protect the Casino’s sensitive information such as guest information, credit card details, employee and shareholder records.

Harris said the hotel was using Symantec’s anti-virus product for the past two-three years. However time came to a do review performance of the products and the Hotel decided to chose Sophos as its new vendor.

“We found that Symantec's product updates were large in size and when issuing Symantec Mail Security for Exchange the backup took 14 hours. We decided not to renew our contract and approached Sophos,” he said.

“The pricing was also cheaper from Sophos.”

Harris said Sophos put them in touch with a QLD based partner, New Base Computer Services, who sold the Sophos product to the hotel. The products were then implemented by Sophos.

Harris said once the roll out of Sophos’ products across its network is complete, the hotel will then extend the protection to employees by allowing them to access the products for their home PCs.
