Sony Ericsson revealed additional details of the new handset today at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The Gingerbread operated device (version 2.3) will have access to Sony Computer Entertainment's recently announced PlayStation Suite, the game content hub which is due to be launched later this year.
Sony Ericsson has partnered with major gaming publishers to deliver content available via the AndroidTM Marketplace. Confirmed major franchises include EA’s Need For Speed, Sims 3 and a mobile multiplayer version of FIFA 10, GLU Mobile/Activision's Guitar Hero, Gameloft’s Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell.
Traditional controls include a digital D pad, two analogue touch pads, two shoulder buttons and the four PlayStation icons: circle, cross, square and triangle. The new device runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with a 1Ghz CPU and embedded Adreno GPU graphics processor, which will provide 60fps play-back 3D mobile gaming.
The display is a 4 inch capacitive multi-touch 480 x 854 pixels screen, the device also sports a 5.1 megapixel camera with a flash/camera light. Notable connectivity includes 3.5 mm audio jack, GPS, Bluetooth, DLNA Certified, Google Location Service, Micro USB, USB 2.0 high speed support, and Wi-Fi. The Xperia PLAY is weighted at 175 grams. Phone memory is 400 MB and a 8GB memory will be included while the handset supports up to 32 GB
