United States based vendor SoftIron has launched the AUKUS Sovereign Tactical Edge Cloud or ASTEC, to provide classified data storage, compute and networking capability to be deployed in battlespace or other challenged environments.
ASTEC is designed to be rugged, portable, resilient and operates in the extremes of the battlespace, according to SoftIron's chief operating officer Jason van der Schyff, at the official launch of the device in Canberra today.
It comprises eight server nodes with 2U of additional space for external components such as cabling, or network encryption devices, SoftIron said.
“At the heart of ASTEC is HyperCloud, an integrated platform which simplifies the delivery of private cloud by taking a highly-opinionated approach to deployment across the entire stack from hardware provisioning to tenancy management,” van der Schyff said.
The cloud device comes in a 10U military-grade ruggedised case, engineered to withstand severe conditions, along with environmental impact protection from shock, vibration, water, salt, fog, dust, sand and electromagnetic impulses.
ASTEC can be stacked and deployed in remote and harsh environments.
