Smartest Aussie tech companies honoured in 2011 iAwards

The Australian Information Industry Association has announced the state winners for its 2011 iAwards, honouring companies across a variety of categories from start-ups to research and development, green and sustainable IT, health and education.

“The 2011 iAwards field has been very strong in across all states and territories,” said AIIA chief executive Ian Birks. “There has been a trend of continual improvement in the field of iAwards contenders over the past few years, and we are now seeing world class technology innovators consistently emerging at the local level.”

Birks added that it was gratifying to see such a high level of technical innovation in Australia coinciding with the rollout of the national broadband network, the combination of which would help to arrest a decade of negative productivity.

“These are the companies that will deliver the benefits of broadband to the Australian community,” Birk said.

“What each state and territory is able to demonstrate is that the companies that will drive productivity growth and prosperity as we develop a national digital economy are not only home-grown, they are ready today.”

“Business and government should take note.”

Running for the past 17 years, the iAwards are presented by the AIIA, Australian Computer Society (ACS) and the Pearcey Foundation. This year, for the first time they recognised individuals alongside organisations.

Winning companies and individuals from Australian states and territories enter the running for the national iAwards, with winners announced at the 2011 iAwards Gala Dinner in Melbourne on 4 August.

After that Australia’s best then go on to represent the country at the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance Awards held later this year in Thailand.
