Distributor Simms International has appointed Michael Rickers as general manager of sales.
In this newly created position, Rickers is responsible for overseeing the expanding sales team across Simms' three divisions: Corporate, Retail and Specialist Apple.
Rickers told CRN that "Simms has quite a few new vendors that fit the corporate world and the opportunity for growth right now is quite extensive."
Rickers has held senior sales and general management roles within the Australian IT channel spanning 23 years.
Rickers said distribution was a new challenge for him compared to his previous roles in manufacturers or system integrators.
"I spent a couple of years at Hitachi and I left there probably a few months ago. I was looking around for something quite different and this really fit," he said.
Prior to Hitachi, Rickers was general manager of Computercorp (Synergy Plus).
"I have known Mick for over 12 years, he ran a great team over at Computercorp and his no-nonsense, approachable and pragmatic style is the perfect cultural fit for Simms," said Simms' managing director, Danny Moore.
