Specialist solutions provider IG3 Education has acquired distributor Rectron Electronics.

The deal, which took effect 1 October, will see both brands continue but will see back-office teams consolidated. IG3 chief executive Tony Church has been appointed group CEO, while Shannon Ma will stay as Rectron managing director. IG3 chairperson Roger Sayers has also taken on the same role for Rectron.

Church declined to reveal the precise value of the 100 percent acquisition, but said it was a "multi-million dollar" deal.

The new merged company announced that the combined group is considering a float on the Australian Securities Exchange.

"We're currently focused on education, but the acquisition really gives us further opportunities," Church told CRN. "We would like to take our education products into the corporate market and, through Rectron, develop our own [channel] of value-added resellers."

"We have intellectual property with software and hardware manufactured overseas."

IG3 Education claims to have solutions that reach into 75 percent of Australian schools with "a well-established service and support network throughout Australia" operated out of its Gold Coast headquarters.

"The buyout gives us a way into Melbourne and Sydney," said Church, adding that the combined IG3-Rectron group now has 42 employees in total.

Rectron Electro has warehouses in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. It boasts vendors Gigabyte, Razor and Cooler Master on its catalogue.
