Samsung's Galaxy S5 gets nod from Canberra

Samsung's flagship Galaxy S5 phone has earned a key security certification from the Australian Government.

The vendor announced this week that the phone has been "approved" for use by the government, with news it has received the Common Criteria Certification against the Mobile Device Fundamentals Protection Profile (MDFPP) standard.

This means the Galaxy S5 is qualified for use by the US military, federal agencies and other regulated organisations including the Australian Signals Directorate, according to a statement by Samsung.

Certification covers encryption, intrusion detection, key exchange and support for secure networking standards, among other factors. The new MDFPP covers crypto module, device encryption, WiFi security, screen lock and mobile device management as well as other criteria.

The MDFPP was published in the US and accepted this year by the Australian Signals Directorate, according to Samsung's statement.
