Samsung tops NSW Fair Trading complaints register with Apple, Harvey Norman and Kogan in top six

A number of tech vendors and resellers continue to receive the most complaints in NSW Fair Trading’s monthly register, with Samsung Electronics topping the list for August.

The diversified vendor logged 31 complaints last month, 26 of which were from its Sydney Olympic Park location, and 16 of that were within the electrical, electronic, whitegoods and gas appliances category.

The other tech vendor in the list was Apple, receiving the fourth most complaints with 22. Resellers meanwhile are all within the top ten, specifically Harvey Norman with 21, Kogan with 20, Big Warehouse Spares with 16 and The Good Guys at 12 complaints for August.

NSW Fair Trading said the majority of the complaints are related to tablets, computer parts, smartphones, watches, gaming devices, whitegoods and gas appliances.

“The August Complaints Register should give shonky retailers a well-deserved shock, and encourage them to lift their game,” NSW minister for better regulation Matt Kean said.

“Electronic retailers are still featuring strongly on the list, with travel companies making an appearance, and an interesting new addition with a dog food supplier.”

Kean was referring to online dog food supplier dogfood.com.au, which received 10 complaints, in addition to Qantas and travel agency Monte Carlo Travel.

In the July register, Samsung logged the second most complaints with 33, with Kogan topping the list at 42 and Harvey Norman rounding out the top three with 31 complaints.

The July register was also the first month without online electronics retailers Android Enjoyed and sister company CameraSky, both notable mainstays in the NSW Fair Trading list. Both companies have ceased operating and NSW Fair Trading has taken parent company Digital Marketing and Solutions to the NSW Supreme Court earlier this month.
