Outsourcing firm Salmat today launched a 240-seat facility in the Philippines to service and support clients in Australia, New Zealand and Japan.
The McKinley Hill, Manila operation replaced a smaller facility in the Philippines and would not take away Australian jobs, a spokesman of the ASX-listed company said.
The centre would provide contact centre services, programming, content management, data entry, image processing, Java and .NET development, testing, and support.
While the previous centre offered business process outsourcing (BPO) services to customers in the Philippines, the McKinley Hill facility would not.
"Our new operation at McKinley Hill in Manila has been set up primarily to service our Australian and NZ clients," the spokesman told iTnews.
Use of the centre was offered to all Salmat's Australian clients, the spokesman said, noting that offshoring was cheaper than onshore options.
Contact centre staff in the Philippines tended to seek longer term employment than those in Australia, and thus provided a more professional, dedicated service, the spokesman said.
"Of course, our client's needs are paramount and any solution, including use of our Manila operations, must deliver a beneficial outcome for our clients," he said.
"Whilst some of our clients are experienced users of offshore facilities, others are keen to understand and validate the benefits presented by this offering."
The spokesman would not disclose which of its clients used its existing or new offshore facilities.
Salmat counted Jetstar, TNT, SunCorp, Telstra, and TrustPower as customers, according to its website.
