RIM unveils BlackBerry App World 1.1 update

Research In Motion (RIM) has released an update to its BlackBerry App World, expanding its presence and adding several new features.

The mobile application store is available in 11 new countries, and in five languages, namely English, French, Italian, German and Spanish. The store first opened in April to users in the UK, the US and Canada.

BlackBerry owners can now access the store over Wi-Fi and cellular data connections to browse and download applications, and can also review and recommend apps to friends and manage the apps on their device using the My World function.

The latest version promises improved search, and allows users to sort by free or paid applications as well as look at the top free and paid app downloads. Visitors can also search by name, date, rating, price or developer.

Applications can now be archived to an SD Card, allowing them to be easily reinstalled at a later date.

New App World users can download the application from the mobile BlackBerry site at mobile.blackberry.com, while existing customers will be prompted to download version 1.1 via a red star on the App World icon.
