Tasmania has welcomed a rare IT industry event with local reseller Intuit Technologies bringing a Dell roadshow and the vendor's ANZ boss Angela Fox to Hobart today.
Intuit Technologies Tasmania chief executive Pieter Kolkert told CRN that Tasmania's small market has meant the vendor had never previously considered taking its showcase to the island: "The return on investment is just not as good."
But as the major Dell premier partner in the state, this year Intuit has managed to launch the Intuit Technologies Solutions Showcase at Hobart's Hotel Grand Chancellor in a joint effort with the vendor.
"We felt we could get enough customers to it. We felt there's a good enough story to be told this year with the newer technologies like hyper-converged and modern storage solutions," Kolkert said, adding that today's event was more than just "desktops and laptops".
"This is an event targeted at the higher end of people in technology and shows a broader range of product sets."
Kolkert said that he hoped for "in excess" of 80 attendees. "Generally we'd get 20 to 30 to come along to an event, but this one's a bit more than a normal event!"
The special guest for the day is Dell ANZ managing director Angela Fox, who will also be speaking at a separate 'women in technology'-themed luncheon at Hobart.
Dell ANZ channels and alliances general manager Geoff Wright told CRN that Tasmania is "quite a special territory" where fulfilment occurs 100 percent through the channel.
Intuit Technologies has offices in Hobart, Launceston and Burnie, as well as mainland branches in Melbourne and the Gold Coast.
