Rackspace wants to make AWS migrations "point and click"

Rackspace has upgraded its partnership with Amazon Web Services through an "enhanced strategic, channel relationship" that claims to bring point and click simplicity to public cloud migrations.

The newly minted partnership has three components: solution and migration advisory services that offer customers AWS-specific technical resources to help plan the migration of applications and data; migration service delivery based on Rackspace engineers working with the AWS professional services team from a shared work space inside Rackspace HQ; and advanced migration tooling, a “point and click” self-service interface that enables customers to easily move various workloads to AWS.

The interface and recommendation engine, which are baked into the Rackspace Control Panel, display optimal locations, instance sizing, and cost comparisons for the customer environments to be migrated.

The deal comes less than two years since Rackspace launched its "fanatical support" for AWS and swiftly became one of the public cloud's top global partners.

This latest AWS deal marks another milestone in Rackspace's continued shift from one-time threat to Amazon's public cloud business to AWS ally and provider of managed services for competitor clouds.

Rackspace's "if you can't beat them, join them" pivot around cloud partnerships has also extended to Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform.
